There are three options to reach Manali from Delhi:
- Volvo Overnight Bus (Included)
We provide a comfortable overnight Volvo bus from Delhi to Manali, included in the expedition package. - Flight to Kullu (Optional)
You can take a flight from Delhi to Kullu (KUU) Airport. From the airport, we arrange a taxi transfer to your hotel in Manali. - Private Taxi (Optional)
Riders may also book a private taxi from Delhi to Manali, which takes around 12–14 hours. This option is not included in the expedition package.
After arriving in Manali, riders check in to the hotel and rest before the expedition begins.
Day 2 – Arrival in Manali & Acclimatization Ride
Welcome to Manali, located at around 2,000 meters in the Himalayan foothills. After arriving and checking into the hotel, riders meet the Offhorizon Adventure expedition team for a short briefing about the journey ahead.
Today we introduce the motorcycles and riding equipment, followed by a short acclimatization ride around Manali. This ride helps riders get comfortable with the motorbike, understand Indian road conditions and traffic, and adjust to riding in the mountains.
The route also offers beautiful Himalayan views, allowing riders to enjoy the landscapes of the Kullu Valley while preparing for the high-altitude adventure that begins the next day.
Day 3 – Manali to Jispa-The Adventure Ride Begins
Today the real motorcycle adventure begins as we start our journey toward the high Himalayas and the goal of reaching the world’s highest motorable road, Umling La. The Offhorizon Adventure team is ready to support you on this unforgettable adventure.
We ride approximately 100 km from Manali to Jispa, following a scenic mountain route through the Lahaul Valley. Along the way we pass through the impressive Atal Tunnel, one of the longest high-altitude tunnels in the world, before reaching the beautiful village of Jispa. The ride continues through Sissu, Tandi and Keylong, offering spectacular views of Himalayan peaks and river valleys.
Our destination for the day is the peaceful village of Jispa, located along the Bhaga River, where riders can relax and enjoy the quiet beauty of the high Himalayas before continuing deeper into the mountains.
Day 4 – Jispa to Padum-Crossing Shinkula Pass into Zanskar
Today the tour enters one of the most remote regions of the Himalayas as we ride from Jispa to Padum. The route covers approximately 138 km and takes us across our first major high-altitude pass, Shinkula Pass (5,091 m).
After breakfast we begin the ride toward Shinkula, climbing through dramatic mountain landscapes. At the top we stop briefly to enjoy the views before descending into the beautiful Zanskar region. On the way down we pass the stunning Gonbo Rangjon (God’s Mountain), one of the most iconic peaks in Zanskar, where we stop for a short tea break.
We continue riding through remote valleys and small mountain villages, stopping for lunch in Purne, before completing the journey to Padum (3,669 m), the main town of Zanskar Valley. This day offers true adventure riding and a deeper experience of the remote Himalayan landscape.
Day 5 – Padum to Lamayuru-High Pass Adventure Through Zanskar
Today is one of the most challenging and rewarding riding days of the expedition. The journey from Padum to Lamayuru covers approximately 200 km and takes around 7–9 hours, riding through some of the most remote and dramatic landscapes of the Zanskar region.
During the ride we cross two spectacular high mountain passes: Singe La Pass (5,009 m) and Sir Sir La Pass (4,832 m). These remote Himalayan passes offer breathtaking views and rugged terrain that few riders experience.
The route follows sections of the Zanskar River, passing through isolated valleys and raw mountain scenery. Around 60% of the route is off-road with flat dirt tracks, while the remaining 40% is paved road, making this a true adventure riding day.
By late afternoon we reach Lamayuru, one of the oldest villages in Ladakh, famous for its ancient monastery and the surrounding Moonland landscape, where riders can rest after an unforgettable day in the Himalayas.
Day 6 – Lamayuru to Leh-Scenic Ride into the Heart of Ladakh
Today is a relaxed riding day as we travel from Lamayuru to Leh, covering approximately 127 km in about 3–4 hours. Before starting the ride, we visit the famous Lamayuru Monastery, one of the oldest and most important monasteries in Ladakh.
The route to Leh is a smooth tarmac road, allowing riders to enjoy a comfortable ride through the stunning landscapes of Ladakh. Unlike previous days, today we do not cross any high passes, making it a perfect day to enjoy the scenery and recover from the demanding rides through Zanskar.
We arrive in Leh around lunchtime and enjoy a well-deserved meal. As the main town of Ladakh, Leh offers shops, cafés, and local markets where riders can explore and relax.
In the evening, we ride to Shanti Stupa, one of the best viewpoints in Leh, where riders can enjoy a panoramic view of the town and the surrounding Himalayan mountains.
Day 7 – Leh Local Ride & Khardung La Pass
Today is a lighter day in Leh, allowing riders to rest and adjust to the altitude before continuing the expedition. Leh sits at around 3,500 meters, so this day helps the body recover after the demanding rides through Zanskar.
In the morning riders can relax after breakfast while the Offhorizon Adventure support team checks the motorcycles and prepares them for the next stage of the expedition. Riders can also walk through the Leh local market, where you can explore Ladakhi handicrafts, pashmina shawls, prayer flags, and other local souvenirs.
Later in the day we ride toward the famous Khardung La Pass (5,359 m), one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The ride offers spectacular Himalayan views and is one of the iconic highlights of a Ladakh motorcycle expedition.
We also arrange the necessary permits for Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Hanle, which require your original passport. Our team manages the permit process to ensure everything is ready for the upcoming ride.
By evening we return to Leh, where riders can relax, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the next stage of the Himalayan adventure.
Day 8 – Leh to Pangong Lake-Crossing Chang La into the High Himalayas
After spending time in Leh, riders now have a good understanding of how their bodies respond to high altitude conditions. Before starting the ride, the Offhorizon Adventure team checks in with every rider to discuss health and comfort levels. Our team continuously monitors riders throughout the expedition to ensure everyone is prepared for the higher elevations ahead, including the challenge of reaching Umling La – the world’s highest motorable road. Thanks to our carefully planned expedition program and strong team support, most riders successfully achieve this incredible milestone.
Today we ride from Leh to Pangong Lake, crossing one of Ladakh’s famous high mountain passes, Chang La Pass (5,360 m). The road climbs through dramatic Himalayan landscapes before descending toward the beautiful Pangong region.
Our goal is to reach Pangong Lake early in the afternoon, giving riders time to relax and enjoy the incredible views of this high-altitude lake. Surrounded by vast mountains and constantly changing colors of water, Pangong is one of the most iconic highlights of any Ladakh motorcycle expedition.
Day 9 – Pangong Lake to Hanle & Umling La Expedition-Riding to the World’s Highest Motorable Road
Today is one of the most exciting and memorable days of the expedition. Our goal is to reach Umling La Pass (5,800 m), the highest motorable road in the world. The total riding distance for the day is around 280 km, and the journey is divided into three stages to make the ride comfortable and enjoyable.
We start early in the morning from Pangong Lake, riding toward the remote region of Hanle. The road to Hanle is mostly smooth tarmac, passing through wide high-altitude plains and dramatic Himalayan landscapes. Upon reaching Hanle, we stop for a short tea break before continuing the adventure.
From Hanle we begin the ride toward Umling La. Before the final climb, we take a break for lunch and some rest, allowing riders to recharge while enjoying the vast and peaceful surroundings of the high Himalayas.
In the afternoon, we ride up to Umling La Pass, standing at about 5,800 meters above sea level. Reaching this incredible pass is a dream for many motorcyclists, and it is one of the greatest highlights of our Ladakh motorcycle expedition.
After spending some time at the summit, we ride back toward Hanle, enjoying a beautiful sunset ride through the mountains. The descent offers breathtaking views and a feeling of achievement that few riding experiences in the world can match. Thanks to the experience and planning of the Offhorizon Adventure expedition team, riders can enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime journey in the safest and most memorable way.
Day 10 – Hanle to Leh-Scenic Return Ride Across Ladakh
After the incredible experience of reaching Umling La, today is a relaxed riding day as we return from Hanle to Leh. The total distance is approximately 260 km, and the route offers wide, smooth tarmac roads, making it a comfortable and enjoyable ride through the vast landscapes of Ladakh.
Riders travel across the open high-altitude plains of the Changthang region, surrounded by dramatic mountains and endless Himalayan views. This stretch allows riders to enjoy the freedom of the road after the demanding high-pass adventure of the previous day.
We aim to reach Leh early in the afternoon, giving riders time to relax, explore the town again, or simply enjoy a comfortable evening after completing one of the most memorable sections of the Ladakh motorcycle expedition.
Day 11 – Departure from Leh-End of the Himalayan Expedition
After an unforgettable journey across the Himalayas, today marks the final day of your Ladakh Motorcycle Expedition with Offhorizon Adventure. Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the hotel in Leh, giving you time to reflect on the incredible adventure you have completed—from remote valleys and high mountain passes to reaching Umling La, the world’s highest motorable road.
Before departing, we gather for a final group photo, capturing the memories of this expedition and the friendships formed during the ride. These moments often become some of the most memorable parts of a Himalayan journey.
Participants can book their flight from Leh to Delhi according to their preferred schedule. Our team will assist with transfers to Leh Airport if required. As Leh is located in a remote Himalayan region, flying is the most convenient way to return to Delhi.
With years of experience leading motorcycle expeditions across the Himalayas, the Offhorizon Adventure team is proud to share this incredible journey with riders from around the world. We thank you for being part of this adventure and hope to welcome you again on another expedition in the future.
