The road climbs steadily as the landscape becomes increasingly rugged. By the end of the day, the busy mountain towns are behind you and the character of the expedition starts to change. The route climbs towards Shinkula Pass before descending into the remote Zanskar Valley and continuing towards Padum. This is a demanding motorcycle day. Road conditions can vary, and progress depends on the mountain rather than the clock. The reward is the feeling of reaching one of the most remote parts of the journey under your own power. The landscape changes dramatically during the day. Deep valleys give way to the dry, open mountains associated with Ladakh. This is another long day in the saddle, with remote sections where facilities are limited. By evening, you reach Lamayuru and the distinctive landscape surrounding the village. Highest point: Approx. 4,500 m Terrain: Mountain roads, gravel and rough sections Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Day 6CloseLamayuru to LehMore detailsLamayuru to LehWhere you stayLehAltitude: Approx. 3,500 m Today the route reaches Leh. After the demanding riding through Zanskar, arriving in Leh gives the group time to settle into the high-altitude environment before the eastern Ladakh section begins. The road offers classic Ladakh scenery — barren mountains, wide valleys and enormous open skies. Highest point: Approx. 3,500–4,000 m Terrain: Paved mountain roads and fast-flowing sections Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Day 7CloseLeh to Nubra Valley via Khardung LaMore detailsLeh to Nubra Valley via Khardung LaWhere you stayNubra ValleyAltitude: Approx. 3,050 m Leave Leh and climb towards Khardung La. The road rises rapidly before dropping towards Nubra Valley. The transition is spectacular: high barren slopes give way to a broader valley environment with villages, rivers and vegetation. Khardung La is one of the defining high-altitude crossings of the expedition. Official Ladakh tourism information places the pass at roughly 18,350–18,380 ft. Highest point: Khardung La — approx. 5,600 m Terrain: Paved and rough mountain roads Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Day 8CloseNubra Valley to Pangong LakeMore detailsNubra Valley to Pangong LakeWhere you stayPangong LakeAltitude: Approx. 4,300 m Leave Nubra and continue towards Pangong Lake. The route moves through remote high-altitude terrain before the first view of the lake appears between the mountains. Pangong sits at approximately 4,300 m above sea level, so temperatures can fall sharply after sunset. Expect a long day, changing surfaces and limited facilities. Then comes the lake. Highest point: Approx. 5,400 m Terrain: Gravel, rough sections and high-altitude roads Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Day 9ClosePangong Lake to Hanle via Umling LaMore detailsPangong Lake to Hanle via Umling LaWhere you stayHanleAltitude: Approx. 4,300 m
This is one of the biggest riding days of the expedition. Leave Pangong and head towards Umling La before continuing towards Hanle. At extreme altitude, everything changes. The motorcycle feels different. Your breathing changes. Cold and wind become more noticeable. Simple stops can require more effort. This is not a day for chasing speed. It is a day for riding carefully, staying together and experiencing one of the highest sections of the Himalayas by motorcycle.

Day 10CloseHanle to LehMore detailsHanle to LehWhere you stayLehAltitude: Approx. 3,500 m The route turns west towards Leh. After the extreme altitude of the previous days, the return to Leh feels different. The group has now crossed some of the most remote sections of the expedition. It is still a substantial riding day, but there is a sense that the journey is coming together. Highest point: Approx. 5,000 m Terrain: High-altitude roads and paved mountain sections Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

After breakfast, we complete the final arrangements and say goodbye to the riders and team. Eleven days earlier, the journey began in Delhi. Since then, you have ridden through Manali, Zanskar, Padum and Lamayuru, crossed high Himalayan passes, reached Nubra and Pangong, ridden towards Umling La and spent nights deep inside Ladakh. The motorcycle expedition ends here. The memories don't. Meals: Breakfast

Across All Four Himalayan Ranges

Ride through the incredible geographical diversity of the Himalayas, crossing the Shivalik, Central Himalaya, Greater Himalaya and Trans-Himalaya. The journey takes you from lush green valleys and forested mountain roads to the dramatic, high-altitude deserts of Ladakh. Expect a mix of smooth tarmac, endless hairpin bends, gravel sections, river crossings and challenging mountain roads, with the ultimate experience of riding to Umling La, one of the world’s highest motorable roads.

Questions riders ask

Who is this expedition for?

This tour is designed for riders with previous motorcycle experience. You should be comfortable riding for several hours a day and handling gravel, rough roads, mountain climbs and changing weather. You do not need to be a professional off-road rider. You do need to be confident, patient and physically prepared for high-altitude riding.

How difficult is the Himalayas Motorcycle Tour?

Challenging. The difficulty comes from the combination of altitude, consecutive riding days, changing road surfaces, weather and remote terrain. There is no single road that makes this expedition difficult. It is the complete experience.

How many riders are in the group?

The maximum group size is 10 riders. We deliberately keep the group small so the expedition remains manageable on narrow, rough and high-altitude roads.

What motorcycle will I ride?

A Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.

Can I bring a pillion?

Yes. The pillion rider price is ₹120,000.

Can I have a single room?

Yes. A single-room upgrade is available as an add-on.

Is food included?

Yes. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included according to the expedition schedule. Day 1 includes dinner only, while the final day includes breakfast only.

Is fuel included?

Yes, Fuel is included

What happens if the road is closed?

The Himalayas can change the plan. If weather, road conditions, landslides, local restrictions or other circumstances make a section unsafe, the expedition team may modify the route or timing. Safety takes priority over following the itinerary exactly.
