About Offhorizon

Guided motorcycle tours and 4x4 expeditions in the Himalayas

Offhorizon Adventures runs guided motorcycle tours and self-drive 4x4 expeditions from our base in Manali, India. Our routes cross Ladakh, Spiti Valley, Zanskar and the highest motorable passes in the Indian Himalayas, the old kingdom of Upper Mustang in Nepal, and further routes in Bhutan, Tibet, Sri Lanka and Mongolia. Every departure travels with an expedition leader, a mechanic and a backup vehicle carrying luggage, spares and oxygen, in groups small enough for the crew to know how every rider is coping. You bring the riding. We handle the permits, the rooms, the machines and the plan for the day the road closes.

Two ways to ride the Himalayas with us

Guided motorcycle tours

Ride a prepared Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 over the high passes of Ladakh, Zanskar, Spiti and Mustang, with a road captain in front, a mechanic riding with the group and a backup vehicle behind.

Self-drive 4x4 expeditions

Drive your own 4x4, or hire a Jimny or Thar from our fleet, in a guided convoy through Spiti and Kinnaur, summer and winter. A lead car reads the road and a radio in every vehicle keeps the group together.

Why us

Why riders choose Offhorizon

01

Small groups, on purpose

Most departures take ten riders at most, so the road captain can watch how everyone is riding and how everyone is coping with the altitude.

02

A full crew on every departure

An expedition leader, a mechanic riding with motorcycle groups, a backup vehicle with spares and oxygen, and permits arranged before you land.

03

Comfort after the ride

The best hotel a valley has, heated homestays in winter, and camps with proper beds where there is nothing else. Meals are part of the price.

04

Run from Manali, by people who ride it

We have worked these roads since 2014, first renting motorcycles to riders heading for Ladakh and Spiti, now leading the expeditions ourselves.

Had a fantastic 15-day Ladakh tour which was extended down to Dharmashala, the extra days were a great addition. Going into this with no prior experience of Off Horizon or my fellow adventurers I can only say that it exceeded all my expectations. Bikes were great, lodging and food was as good as could be expected in the locations we visited, and the team was tirelessly friendly and helpful, with a genuine passion for sharing their country and culture.

I have just completed the 11 day Ladakh tour with Offhorizon Adventures. Right from the initial contact the team there were extremely helpful and nothing was to much trouble for them to help with, from flight advise from Ireland, transportation, extra accommodation and even possible medical issues like altitude sickness that might arise. If I thought they were good at this stage ? I was blown away by their level of professionalism and hospitality during my trip. Everyone on the Off Horizon Team made this a trip of a lifetime for me. The bikes were well maintained and in excellent condition, any little tweaks, personal preferences or changes to their set were undertaken to suit all riders. Once on the road and starting our adventure, you always felt safe, their advise and attention to detail made the trip truly unforgettable. My exsperience of off road was “0” but with their help, I got through it and enjoyed every minute. We travelled through some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable with every day bringing something new. The accomadation throughout was just perfect with a mix of first class hotels to small family units in the more isolated locations- considering the Irish pallet and diet the food was great and again the team explained every offering. I’m not going to single out any particular Off Horizon team member because each one of them gave 100% of their professionalism, time, hospitality and kindness to every one on this trip- they limit their numbers, which is great because you get that extra attention and help- I could write pages on what I saw and did during the trip but this is something you are going to have to exsperience yourself. Huge thank you to all the other guys on the trip too and a pleasure to meet you all- I would have no hesitation in recommending Off Horizon if you are planning this trip- thank you so much for a truly fantastic adventure 🇮🇪🇮🇳

The team left no stone unturned to ensure our entire ride across 2150 kms was exciting, very safe without a single incident. Great experience! Caring and skilled team, quality bikes, engaging itinerary, good selection of accommodations, endless supply of food and drinks, cultural experiences and a dedicated video/photographer to capture all that. Highly recommended. PS: Surya created an extended 15 day Ladakh and Himachal tour (the original was 11 days) in response to our request. It turned out be much more enjoyable.

Huge thanks to the entire Offhorizon Adventures team for the amazing organization of our tour! We rode an incredible route from Manali through the Zanskar Valley and Kargil all the way to Leh—it was the adventure of a lifetime. I’d like to specifically highlight the team's professional approach: * Bikes and support: The motorcycles were in excellent mechanical condition, fully prepped for high-altitude riding and off-road terrain. You feel safe throughout the entire journey. * Route and logistics: Everything was well-planned, from the initial briefing to stops, accommodation, and meals. The guides know the area perfectly, maintain a comfortable riding pace, and allow time to soak in the fantastic Himalayan views. * Atmosphere: The team is incredibly warm, responsive, and open. They are ready to help, offer advice, and handle any logistical issue at a moment's notice. If you are planning a high-altitude motorcycle tour in Ladakh or Zanskar, I definitely recommend Offhorizon Adventures.

To everyone who has ridden with us: thank you. Your stories are the reason we keep planning the next one.

Before you book

Motorcycle adventure tours in the Himalayas, explained

The questions riders ask us most often before they book a Himalayan motorcycle tour or a 4x4 expedition, answered the way we would answer them in the office in Manali.

What is included in a guided motorcycle tour?
An expedition leader rides at the front, a mechanic rides with the group and a backup vehicle carries your luggage, spares, water and oxygen. You ride a prepared Royal Enfield, the Himalayan 450 in the mountains and the Classic 350 in Sri Lanka, with fuel, rooms, most meals and the permits for restricted areas included. Each tour page lists exactly what is in the price and what is not.
Do I need off-road experience?
Not for every route. The Ladakh motorcycle tour from Leh is mostly tarmac with gravel and water crossings, and suits a confident road rider. Zanskar and the 23-day Trans Himalayan expedition are longer, rougher and meant for riders with touring experience. Every tour is graded honestly on its own page, and if you are unsure, tell us how you ride and we will point you to the right one.
When is the best time for a motorcycle trip in the Himalayas?
It depends on the route. The high passes of Ladakh and Zanskar are open roughly from June to September, with the Leh circuit running from May to October. The Spiti circuit runs into October, and Spiti in winter is driven by 4x4 through Kinnaur from December to March. Upper Mustang rides best in spring and autumn, and Sri Lanka from December to March. The calendar lists every date we run.
How do you deal with altitude?
Our Himalayan routes are planned around how fast you gain height, not just how far you ride. They climb in stages, sleep lower than the day's highest point where possible, and carry oxygen and a pulse oximeter. The highest road we ride is Umling La at 5,798 metres, and the crew watches every rider for early signs of altitude sickness.
Can a pillion or a partner who does not ride come along?
Yes. Motorcycle tours that take a pillion show the pillion price on the tour page. For anyone who would rather not ride, the self-drive 4x4 expeditions follow the same country with four wheels: bring your own 4x4 or hire a Jimny or Thar from our fleet by the day.
How does booking and payment work?
Hold your place with a deposit and pay the rest in instalments of any size. Everything has to be paid 14 days before departure. Payments are not refundable, but more than 45 days out we can usually move you to another date. On a custom expedition every person pays their own share.
Booking

Booking, without the small print

How payment works, stated plainly. The same rules apply on every expedition, and the checkout shows every figure before you pay.

  • Hold your place with a deposit

Pay 10 percent to book and the place is yours. The rest is paid before the expedition starts.

  • Pay the balance your way

Clear the rest in as many instalments as you like, of any amount, any time until 14 days before departure.

  • Move dates rather than lose money

Payments are not refundable, but more than 45 days before departure we can usually move you to another date with space.

  • A rate fixed on the day you book

Prices are set in Indian rupees and the exchange rate is locked when you book, so a later instalment never costs you more.
