Terms of service
The agreement between you and Offhorizon Adventures when you book an expedition with us. Plain English, and short enough to read.
Last updated August 22, 2026
01Who you are booking with
Offhorizon Adventures runs guided motorcycle and 4x4 expeditions from Log Huts Rd, Siyal, Manali, Himachal Pradesh 175131, India. In these terms, we and us mean Offhorizon Adventures, and you means the person making the booking and everyone named on it.
Booking an expedition means you have read these terms and accepted them on behalf of everyone in your party.
02Booking and payment
A booking is confirmed when we have written to you to confirm it and the first payment has reached us. Until both have happened, the place is not held.
You choose how to pay. Either settle the whole expedition at once, or pay 20 percent to hold your place and clear the rest before you travel.
Places come off sale 30 days before departure. After that the group is closed, the permits are filed and we cannot add anyone.
- The 20 percent is due at the time of booking and is what confirms the place
- The balance can be paid in as many instalments as you like, of any amount, whenever suits you
- Everything must be paid no later than 14 days before the departure date
- Prices are set in US dollars and charged in your own currency at the rate on the day you book, which is then fixed for the rest of the booking
03Changing your booking
Tell us as early as you can and we will do what we can. Moving to another departure of the same expedition is usually possible more than 45 days out, subject to space and to any cost we have already committed on your behalf.
A name change is normally straightforward, but permits for restricted areas are issued against a passport and cannot always be reissued in time.
04If you cancel
Cancellations must reach us in writing. The date we receive your written notice is the date we use.
Money paid towards an expedition is not refundable, at any point. It pays for permits, rooms, vehicles and bookings we commit to as soon as you book, and we cannot get those back. Insurance that covers cancellation is worth having, and we say so on every booking.
05If the balance is not paid in time
Fourteen days before departure is a hard line, not a reminder. Permits are filed, rooms are paid for and vehicles are committed against that date.
If anything is still outstanding when it passes, the booking is cancelled, the documents form is withdrawn, the place goes back on sale and no money is returned. We would much rather this never happened, so we write to you as the date approaches, and if you are in difficulty, tell us early and we will do what we can.
06If we change or cancel
Mountain routes change. Landslides, snow, closed passes, weather and permit decisions are outside our control, and your expedition leader may alter the route, the order of days or the accommodation to keep the group moving and safe. We will always aim to give you an expedition of the same standard.
If we cancel an expedition outright for a reason within our control, you may take a full refund or transfer to another departure. Every expedition needs a minimum number of riders, and if that number is not reached we will tell you at least 30 days before departure and offer the same choice.
07What you need to bring
Some things only you can arrange, and without them you cannot ride. Please check them early rather than the week before.
- A valid motorcycle licence from your home country and an International Driving Permit, both as physical documents
- A passport valid for at least six months after your return date, and the correct visa
- Travel insurance covering motorcycling, off road driving and evacuation at the altitudes on your route
- Your own riding gear, unless we have agreed otherwise in writing
08Riding, risk and the group
Riding at altitude on unsealed mountain roads carries risk that no amount of planning removes. You take part knowing that, and you are responsible for riding within your ability and for the condition you turn up in.
The expedition leader's decision is final on safety, on route changes and on whether a rider continues. We may remove someone from an expedition, without refund, for riding dangerously, for riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or for behaviour that puts the group at risk.
09Our liability
We are responsible for running the expedition described in your confirmation with reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or injury caused by your own actions, by a third party unconnected with the expedition, or by events we could not have foreseen or avoided, including weather, landslide, road closure, strike, civil unrest and government decisions.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
10Complaints, law and jurisdiction
If something is wrong, tell your expedition leader while you are still on the road, when it can usually be fixed. If it cannot be settled there, write to us within 28 days of getting home and we will answer within 28 days.
These terms are governed by the law of India, and the courts of Himachal Pradesh have jurisdiction.
