Privacy policy

What we collect when you enquire, book or make an account, why we hold it, and how to get it back or have it deleted.

  1. 01What we collect

    Only what we need to answer you and to run your expedition. We do not buy lists and we do not sell anything about you.

    • Contact details you give us: name, email address, phone number and country
    • Enquiry content: the dates, routes and questions you send us
    • Booking details: the travellers on the booking, dates, room and vehicle choices, licence and passport details where a permit needs them
    • Account details if you make one, including how you signed in with Google or Facebook
    • Technical data your browser sends: IP address, device and pages visited

  2. 02Why we use it

    To reply to enquiries, to quote and confirm bookings, to apply for the permits your route needs, to take payment, and to tell you about changes to a departure you are on.

    We use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. Nothing analytical is loaded until you agree to it, and we do not use any of it to build a profile of you.

  3. 03The basis we rely on

    For enquiries and bookings, we process your data because it is necessary to take steps at your request and to perform our contract with you.

    For permits and for records we are required to keep, we rely on our legal obligations. For anything else, such as marketing email, we rely on your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time without giving a reason.

  4. 04Who else sees it

    Only the people needed to deliver the expedition, and only what they need.

    • Hotels, guesthouses and camps on your route, for the rooms in your name
    • Government departments that issue restricted area and route permits
    • Razorpay, our payment provider, which handles card details directly so we never hold them
    • ipapi.co, which turns your address into a country once so prices can be shown in your currency
    • Google, through Tag Manager and Analytics, which receives the pages you visited once you have agreed to it
    • Supabase, which hosts our database and sign in, and our email provider
    • Professional advisers or authorities where the law requires it
    • Other riders on your booking, who see the names of the group they were invited to join

  5. 05Where it is held, and for how long

    Data is held on servers operated by our hosting providers, which may be inside or outside your country. Where data leaves the European Economic Area we rely on the standard contractual clauses.

    Enquiries are kept for two years. Booking records, invoices and payment records are kept for eight years, which is the period Indian tax law requires. Account data is kept until you delete the account.

  6. 06Your rights

    You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to how we use it, or ask us to send it to someone else. We answer within 30 days and there is no charge.

    You can delete your account yourself at any time from inside the account. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you may also complain to your national data protection authority.

  7. 07Cookies and what your browser stores

    We do not use advertising cookies and we do not track you across other sites.

    Your browser stores three things: the language you chose, a cookie named oh_country holding the country we looked up once so prices can be shown in your currency, and, if you sign in, a session so you stay signed in. Clearing your browser storage removes all of it.

    If you agree to analytics, Google Analytics also sets its own cookies. Until you do, none are written.

  8. 08Changes and how to reach us

    If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page, and we will tell you directly if the change affects how we use data you have already given us.
