Comparing guided Ladakh motorcycle tour prices: what is actually included?

Compare guided Ladakh tour prices on the same basis: room sharing, meals, motorcycle and support, travel outside the package, deposits and optional protection. Build a realistic total before requesting a quote.

The most useful price for a Ladakh motorcycle tour is the one you can build a holiday budget around. A headline figure tells you little about room sharing, the journey to the start or the costs you will meet along the way.

Begin with the route and the days you have available. Then compare the motorcycle, accommodation, meals and support on the same basis. Here is how to do that, with examples from Offhorizon’s Ladakh programmes.

Why the 8-day and 11-day tours have different prices

Our 8-day Ladakh Motorcycle Tour starts in Leh and covers approximately 1,150 km. The 9 October 2026 price baseline is ₹120,000 per rider and ₹90,000 per pillion, with double-sharing accommodation.

The 11-day Himalayan Motorcycle Tour through Zanskar and Ladakh begins with travel from Delhi to Manali and covers approximately 1,480 km of riding. Its price baseline is ₹170,000 per rider and ₹120,000 per pillion, with a private, single-person room included for the rider.

Fewer days and shared accommodation help keep the 8-day package price lower. Your total holiday cost also depends on flights, extra nights and room choices, so the shorter package will not necessarily produce the same saving once everything is added.

For context, the 23-day Trans Himalayan Motorcycle Expedition covers approximately 2,950 km through Spiti, Zanskar and Ladakh. Its baseline rider price is ₹620,000, with a private room included and no pillions accepted. It is a substantially longer journey to budget for.

These rupee figures are dated planning references. Confirm the price for your departure and chosen options before booking. Start by choosing between the Leh and Manali starts before comparing the total cost.

Double-sharing or a private room

Room occupancy can explain a meaningful part of the difference between quotes. The 8-day tour includes double-sharing; a private room costs extra. The 11-day tour includes a private room for one person. A rider and pillion travelling together as a couple share one private room; separate private rooms for each of them are not included. The 23-day expedition also includes a private room.

If you want your own space, compare the shorter tour after adding its private-room supplement. If you are happy sharing, compare both packages with that preference in mind rather than paying for a room arrangement you do not particularly value.

Travelling with a pillion? Ask for the room arrangement to be stated on your combined quote. A pillion price means sharing the motorcycle; accommodation needs to be clear separately.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included on the 8-day and 11-day Ladakh tours discussed here. You can therefore compare their meal provision directly instead of building a separate daily food budget for one of them.

When assessing another operator’s quote, check whether “meals included” means all three meals or only breakfast and dinner. Ask what happens on transfer days and whether the meal arrangement applies throughout that specific itinerary.

Keep optional purchases separate. If particular drinks, snacks or dietary arrangements matter to you, establish what is covered before calculating your personal spending allowance. Avoid guessing from a package’s “all-inclusive” label.

Motorcycle, fuel and the people supporting your ride

Both Ladakh programmes list the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. Compare the stated motorcycle with the one in any competing quote, and check whether substitution is allowed.

The 11-day programme explicitly includes route fuel, a mechanic and a luggage support vehicle. It also lists photography/video support, first aid and oxygen. Ask for the full inclusions on your chosen tour rather than assuming every programme uses identical staffing.

A useful support comparison goes beyond counting vehicles. Who leads the ride? Who stays with the last rider? What happens if your motorcycle needs attention, or you cannot complete a riding section? Confirm the luggage allowance and the arrangements for carrying it.

Support equipment is worth understanding, but it cannot guarantee a particular outcome in an emergency. Ask about procedures as well as the kit carried.

Route permits and your travel documents

Ask which route permissions and local fees are included, who arranges them and when your documents are needed. A permit service does not automatically cover an Indian visa or the documents required to ride.

Get route-specific confirmation for your nationality. This is particularly important when adding an optional detour. An old permit fee list or another rider’s experience may not describe your trip, so leave unverified fees out of a precise comparison.

Arrival travel, return travel and other expenses

Write down the package’s start and finish locations before looking at flights. The 11-day itinerary includes the Delhi-to-Manali Volvo coach and ends in Leh. Flights are extra; choosing a private taxi or flight instead of the coach also adds cost. A Leh-start tour needs its own arrival-travel budget.

The 23-day expedition has different arrangements, including a scheduled Dharamshala/Kangra-to-Delhi domestic flight in its published itinerary. Check each programme separately rather than applying one tour’s exclusions to another.

Add any transfers and hotel nights outside your confirmed package, travel insurance, visa costs where applicable, riding gear and personal spending. Ask whether your arrival and departure transfers are included, and leave room for unexpected expenses.

Our first-time visitor’s guide to India covers wider arrival questions. For the different journeys into Ladakh, see the Manali to Leh motorcycle route guide.

Booking deposits, motorcycle deposits and damage protection

These are three different budget items. A booking deposit is an advance payment towards the tour. At Offhorizon, a 10% advance payment of the total tour price is required to confirm the booking. A motorcycle security deposit relates to the bike arrangement. An optional damage-protection charge pays for the protection described in its terms.

Offhorizon’s Full Damage Protection is optional and costs extra. When you choose it, damage to the motorcycle is covered in full, up to and including a total loss of the bike, and the motorcycle deposit is waived. Check exclusions, any remaining liability and the procedure after an incident. Do not assume a deposit is the most you could owe, or that its return is unconditional.

Motorcycle damage protection also serves a different purpose from travel insurance. Ask your insurer to confirm cover for the engine size, riding activities, route altitudes and evacuation requirements.

Review how booking works and the expedition terms, then have the payment schedule and applicable cancellation terms confirmed before paying. Use the written quote for the deposit amount.

Build one like-for-like total

Keep two figures: expected holiday spending and any additional funds you need available for security deposits or disruption.

For expected spending, combine the confirmed package, room upgrades, selected options and the travel costs outside it. Ask whether the final package total includes applicable taxes and charges, and identify anything payable locally.

Send each operator the same dates, party size and room preference. For a rider and pillion, request one combined quote showing both places and the agreed accommodation. Compare the finished totals alongside the route and support you want.

To discuss an Offhorizon trip, use the enquiry option on the relevant tour page. Include your dates, riding experience, preferred room arrangement and total budget, saying whether that budget includes flights. Check the riding experience needed for Ladakh and Zanskar before choosing your preferred itinerary.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the 8-day Ladakh tour cheaper than the 11-day tour?

Fewer days and double-sharing accommodation help lower its package price. The longer programme also follows a different route through Zanskar. Add your preferred room option and travel to and from the start before comparing total holiday costs.

Which tours include a private room?

A private, single-person room is included on the 11-day programme, and a private room is included on the 23-day Trans Himalayan expedition. On the 11-day tour, a rider and pillion travelling together as a couple share one private room. The 8-day Ladakh tour includes double-sharing, with a private room available at extra cost.

Are breakfast, lunch and dinner included?

Yes, all three are included on the 8-day and 11-day Ladakh tours discussed here. Check optional personal purchases separately, and tell the team about dietary requirements before booking so the arrangements can be discussed.

What does the pillion price cover?

A pillion travels on the rider’s motorcycle rather than receiving another bike. The 8-day and 11-day programmes offer pillion prices; the 23-day expedition does not accept pillions. On the 11-day tour, a rider and pillion travelling as a couple share one private room. Have the room arrangement and other inclusions recorded on your quote.

What should I add to the advertised price?

Add your selected extras and anything outside the confirmed package: this may include flights, transfers, extra nights, insurance, visa costs, gear and personal spending. Optional activities are also paid for separately: the double-humped camel ride in Nubra Valley, for example, is not included in the tour price. Check each itinerary before adding an item, since some transfers or flights may already be included.

Is motorcycle damage protection the same as a refundable deposit?

No. Offhorizon’s Full Damage Protection is an optional extra that covers damage to the motorcycle in full, including a total loss; a deposit is governed by its own collection, deduction and release conditions. Ask for both to be explained in writing. Neither should be treated as a substitute for travel insurance.

What details produce the most useful quote?

Send travel dates, rider and pillion numbers, room preference, riding experience and your approximate total budget. State whether flights are within that budget and whether you want the Leh-start tour or the longer journey through Zanskar.
